2020 Maryland Scholarship Recipient – Celia Cook
To the Herzberg family and selection committee – Thank you very much! I am honored to be the scholarship recipient. I look forward to sending updates once I am settled at college in the fall.
As the summer is coming to a close, I am excited to leave for the University of Vermont in a few weeks. I am very excited to start my college classes and have been doing my summer assignments in preparation. In anticipation of my arrival in Burlington, I’ve reached out to the Cystic fibrosis Center in VT and plan to continue to participate in research studies during my time there. It is important to me to continue to help my community.
Continuing into college, I plan to continue my work with Project Linus (an organization whose mission is to provide homemade blankets to children in the hospital to provide them with a sense of security and warmth) and participating in cystic fibrosis research studies. Project Linus is a nationwide organization with volunteer locations throughout, including near where I plan to attend college. Additionally, there is a cystic fibrosis research center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, which means I will still be able to participate in studies. At Middlebury College, they have a Center for Community Engagement, which have multiple volunteer opportunities in the community such as Habitat for Humanity and Butch’s Team.
Thank you again for your financial support in helping me achieve my academic goals. I hope that you and your family are staying safe and healthy during these uncertain times.
To Celia – you are truly an inspiration to us and I’m sure will be to those whose lives you touch in college and beyond. We wish you the very best and pray for many blessings for your and your family.
